KOREA – I know nothing other than what I have seen on Team America!!!

King John Eel has died? You can’t get into North Korea cause of all the weapons! Why is it north and South? – Its all one place!

These comments and questions came to mind when I decided that I wanted to learn and teach you about North and South Korea.

What I learnt...

In 1948 along the 38th parallel North and South Korea were divided. An unprecedented attack from the North in 1950 bought about the Korean War – it ceased fire in 1953, however no treaty has been signed.

King John Eel is actually Kim Jong Il! And he passed away last year. His 3rd Son from his second mistress has taken over the leadership of the North, at only 9 years of age...

See the family tree below

The North Koreans love a Mistress...

South Korea is the 13th largest economy in the world – quite impressive for a small place. Mainly due to the production and supply of Hyundai cars and Samsung electronics

Major exports for South Korea.

Traditional Korean food is based around Kimchi – a preserved Cabbage dish that is made in bulk and stored underground... YUM!!!

I hope you have enjoyed learning these interesting things as much as I did...

China - The next place to be!

I was lucky enough to travel to China with other staff members from 10 school local schools. Many were primary, and 3 were secondary.

While the purpose of the visit was to build a sister school relationship with Suzhou number 10 school, which we did, we were also presented with the opportunity to have a cultural experience in Beijing.

Our Sister School – Suzhou No. 10 High School

We visited many historical sites in the countries capital – The Great wall, The Forbidden city, and The Confucius centre. All of which were amazing.

Me at the great wall

There is no doubt that China will be the new strength in the Worlds economy.

India - The next place I hope to travel to...

India is the one place in the world that for some reason I have always wanted to go.  Why? I am always asked why. The answer is simple – I want to see the Taj Mahal! But more than that, there is something that draws me to this location. Some friends that have known me for a very long like have been quoted “We would stand in the street and look at the surrounds and say 'yuck – get me out of here'... You Shelley would stand in the street breathe in and think wow what an experience, how is this going to change my life!” To me – This is a reason: Life experience and challenge. One very true and honest friend is seriously concerned about my intended trip to the country that is India, however this makes me that little more stubborn, and determined to make it happen!

Considering I really know nothing about this country except for my viewing of some documentaries, some light reading and the movie Slum Dog millionaire (it was based on a true story – I think!)I have a lot to learn before my intended travel. But a challenge that I want to take, and hope I enjoy!

Good luck with your research – enjoy!
